The Centers for Regional Excellence program was created by Governor Jennifer Granholm to encourage resource sharing and savings among local governments.  Communities with projects that demonstrate intergovernmental cooperation or collaborative initiatives were eligible to receive up to $25,000 in grant funds.  Thirty-five proposals were submitted and MAP participated on a grant review committee along with state agency, non-profit, and university representatives.  A total of seven grants were awarded during this pilot project.
