Corridor Improvement Authority Act, PA 280 of 2005

Public Act 280, the Corridor Improvement Authority Act, creates a new, highly anticipated economic development tool for local units of government. The bill, sponsored by Senator Jacobs (D - Huntington Woods), creates the Corridor Improvement Authority Act, which would allow cities, villages, and townships to create districts, similar to DDAs, for older commercial corridors along major traffic thoroughfares.

Contract Zoning, PA 577, 578, 579 of 2004

A model ordinance was created through a project spearheaded by the Michigan Townships Association to support the language in PAs 577, 578 and 579, which amended the zoning acts to authorize municipalities to enter into zoning agreements, or conditional rezonings. Joint Planning Act, PA 226 of 2003

Authorizes two or more cities, villages, and/or townships to create to create a joint planning commission, define the geographic jurisdiction of the joint planning commission, and transfer planning commission powers and duties to the joint commission.

Non-contiguous Open Space Planned Unit Developments, Public Acts 227, 228, 229 of 2003
Authorizes non-contiguous open space as part of a PUD option for landowner: "Unless explicitly prohibited by the planned unit development regulations, if requested by the landowner, a city or village or township may approve a planned unit development with open space that is not contiguous with the rest of the planned unit development.
