PART-TIME PLANNER

City of Novi 

The City of Novi, Michigan (population 55,224, located in desirable Oakland County, SE Michigan) seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Planner.  Novi continues to experience growth and development with dynamic residential, commercial and industrial activity and has a strong tradition of planning, open space preservation, and quality development. 

 

Individuals with site plan review experience, and excellent interpersonal, customer service, and presentation skills, with a degree in Planning or closely related field, are encouraged to apply.  Master’s degree and AICP certification are preferred, along with experience or familiarity with ESRI GIS software products and Microsoft Office.  Responsibilities include administering the City’s ordinances, interacting with the public, managing the City’s Master Plan, and making presentations before the Planning Commission. Part-Time Planner will work up to 24 hours per week, including some evening meetings.   Rate of pay $22-$24/hr. DOQ.

Community Planner II

LIAA

LIAA is a nonprofit service organization dedicated to building better communities through civic engagement. For nearly two decades, we have helped citizens, civic groups, other nonprofits, and local units of government use advanced information technologies and community development techniques to improve planning and resource management throughout Michigan and elsewhere.

 

We seek an experienced, highly-creative Community Planner (Level II) with strong leadership and strategic thinking skills. The Community Planner will help LIAA provide the best multi-jurisdictional land use planning and community development services available in Michigan while participating in outreach and development efforts as well as the design, development and dissemination of programs to help people build more sustainable communities.

Role Summary:  The Energy Programs Manager is responsible for leading the City of Ann Arbor in the research, development, implementation and management of programs which are recognized as national examples of energy management for communities as well as municipalities. This role will guide the City and community to achieve ambitious energy goals set by City Council or the City Administrator through existing programs and the development of new innovative programs that uncover, explore and identify alternative energy solutions. CATA System Planner

Job Summary - Essential Functions:

Participates as an effective member of the CATA administrative team and performs all duties described.  The System Planner is responsible for CATA system planning in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements, liaison and coordination with regional and other planning organizations, review and reporting on service standards and performance requirements, maintenance of databases for planning analysis and reports, and effective coordination with grant administration and planning analyst functions. Follows and promotes safe work practices and all CATA safety rules, policies, and procedures.    

  • CATA liaison and advocate with metropolitan planning organizations, local transit agencies, the Federal Transit Administration ("FTA"), the Michigan Department of Transportation ("MDOT"), and other designated organizations.
  • Responsible for short term and long term local, state, and federal system planning functions.
  • Responsible for compliance review and recommendations related to analysis of the transportation system, performance measurement, and service standards.
  • Compile information for compliance with state and federal regulations and submission of plans and reports.
  • Prepare and coordinate response to FTA Triennial review, FTA required compliance reports, and MDOT compliance reviews.
  • Effective public presentation and other representation of CATA consistent with CATA's goals.
  • Analyze ridership and other data to be used in planning and grant activities.
  • Develop requested reports, information items, and position statements. 

Reports To: Assistant Executive Director 

Starting Annual Salary: $36,688 - $45,452 

Qualifications: 

A Bachelor or Master Degree in Urban Planning or equivalent experience and education involving transportation planning.

Must be highly proficient with computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, be able to develop and maintain databases, and have working knowledge of other computer software, for federal and state programs.

Proficient or able to become proficient with transit and other computer programs and applications in use at CATA.

Able to communicate effectively, handle details, meet deadlines, and work independently and under general direction.

Very neat and professional appearance.

Able to perform essential functions and duties and to perform other tasks as assigned.

Cooperative, willing to work with and learn from others, and able to react productively to change.

Attendance as necessary to meet on-going service requirements for public transportation.

FINANCIAL ANALYST AND PLANNER

ANN ARBOR TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

AATA is a mid-sized public transportation agency serving 6 million annual passengers.  It has a FY2011 operating budget of $27 million, a capital budget averaging $4 million per year, and a total asset value of $53 million.  AATA is a dynamic, growing agency widely known for its innovative transportation programs.   The Financial Analyst and Planner will occupy an important and newly created Senior Staff position within the organization. 

The successful candidate will report to the CEO, and will work closely with the Managers of Finance, Service Development, and Community Relations.  To be effective, the successful person must have a strong financial, accounting, or urban planning background (Master's degree preferred; CPA desirable).  Familiarity with public mass transit or the transportation industry will prove very useful.  This position will provide leadership and decision making information with responsibilities that will include:

  • Short-term and long-term financial planning
  • Financial analysis of existing and proposed services
  • Coordinating financial analysis and reporting functions
  • Cash management, investment financing, and banking programs
  • Assisting in the design, implementation and evaluation of services

  • Delivering financial presentations to prospective supporters and partners

  • Coordination of financial information with Planning, Marketing, Finance, and other departments

Charter Township of Brownstown Downtown Development Authority

DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT-

City of Midland

 

POSITION:  Plans and directs all aspects of urban development within the City to provide for continued orderly and economic growth and development.  Consults with City Manager and other staff members on issues relating to growth and development to assist in program and project planning through analyzing growth trends, ordinances, and laws. 

Consults and advises Planning Commission on Master Plan and zoning matters; provides support to the Center City Authority (Corridor Improvement Authority); prepares and administers the CDBG budget and programs, and housing budget. 

Provides oversight of City of Midland Building Department, and Senior Housing; reviews plans for sub-divisions, commercial, industrial and residential projects, and building permit applications for ordinance compliance. 

Prepares and presents reports on complex and controversial development issues; interacts continuously with developers, property owners, civic organizations and the general public on matters such as annexation, land use controls and community growth. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:  Master's Degree in Urban Planning or closely related field and at least five years of progressive management experience in a municipal planning department.  Excellent oral and written skills.  Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) required.  Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Michigan with a good driving record.
