MAP Creates Resource for Master Planning for Resiliency and Sustainability

This information portal is designed to help communities plan for, protect, and preserve their waterfronts. Michigan is a state rich in lakes and rivers and home to the longest freshwater coastline in the world. The list of communities that do not have some sort of waterfront is much shorter than the list of communities that do. http://www.michigancoastalcommunities.com

The Michigan Association of Planning exists to promote quality community planning through education, information and advocacy, statewide. With this as its mission, MAP offers the following planning principles for consideration to all cities, villages, townships, counties and regions in Michigan. These principles were developed and advanced nearly 20 years ago and are just as relevant today in defining what constitutes quality community planning.

Download a pdf. version of the Community Planning Principles.

View or Download (MS Word format) a sample resolution that can be used to adopt these principles in a community.

View a complete list of communities that have adopted the principles. You can become one of the elite members of our principles communities list by downloading the principles and sample resolution for use in your meeting. Once adopted please transmit a copy of the signed resolution of minutes to the MAP office.

Save Gas Money! MAP Workshops Come to You

Your community's planning officials don't have to spend money on gas to drive very far to attend MAP training programs. MAP's on-site workshop program brings the training to you. At an on-site workshop an instructor comes to your location, at a time and date convenient for your participants, and presents a comprehensive educational program, addressing the specific needs of your community. Click here to learn more about the program.
