Frequently Asked Questions

Membership

If you are not a member of the Michigan Association of Planning, please pay the non-member rate.  You may become a member and use the member rate by indicating so on the registration form.  For more membership information, contact the MAP office.

Student Membership Rate:  The purpose of this discount is to make the conference affordable to full-time student members.  MAP recognizes the importance of the conference to give students a jump start on their career.  Enrollment of a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours or 9 graduate credit hours in the fall of 2016 is required to be eligible.  We will verify membership and enrollment.

Hotel Accommodations

MAP is not responsible for making room reservations for registrants.  Hotel accommodations are not included in the conference registration fee.  Please make your own hotel accommodations.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

There is a $50 fee for cancellation of your conference registration on or before September 26, 2016. The request must be made in writing and sent to the MAP office. NO refunds will be granted on or after September 27, 2016. Cancellations received on or after September 27th, and no-shows the day of the event, will be responsible for the full amount of the registration because food/beverage and conference materials costs have already been incurred. You may 1) send a substitute (the difference between member and non-member fee will be charged if a non-member replaces a member) or 2) receive the conference materials in the mail in the event you are unable to attend but not able to cancel in time.

Attire

Business casual attire is recommended for sessions and specialty workshops. Business casual can be defined as "less formal than the standard suit and tie or dress."  Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended!  If you are participating in one of our mobile tours, please wear sensible walking shoes.

Spouse/Significant Others

Due to limited space, spouses/significant others may not attend sessions, tours or specialty workshops.

AICP Certification Maintenance (CM)

By attending sessions Wednesday, October 26, through Friday, October 28, conference attendees can obtain up to 16 CM credits. All sessions at this conference (except the Michigan Citizen Planner sessions and the Capital Improvement Program Training) have been submitted to the American Planning Association (APA) for approval for AICP Certification Maintenance credits.

Citizen Planner Certificate Course  - $95 (in addition to the conference fee).

Michigan Citizen Planner is a non-credit course series leading to a certificate of completion awarded by Michigan State University Extension (MSUE). This program is intended for new planning commissioners, ZBA members, elected officials, non-profit leaders and interested citizens. The course covers job basics for planning and zoning, new economy principles, best practices, court decisions, conflict of interest and conducting effective meetings. The $95 fee includes the MSUE Citizen Planner Certificate and notebook with extensive handout materials and lunches. Participants can continue on to earn the Master Citizen Planner credential (see below). Complete the entire course in three days!

The Master Citizen Planner Credentialing Program

All sessions (except the Citizen Planner Program sessions) are designated for Master Citizen Planner Continuing Education Credits. The Master Citizen Planner (MCP) credentialing program was developed to provide advanced skill development and a benchmark for continuing education among Michigan elected and appointed officials and citizen volunteers. The MCP program involves completing the Citizen Planner course of core sessions, passing an online examination, finishing a capstone presentation, and completing continuing education credit hours.
