Metro Detroit Planners

The Metro Detroit Planner’s (MDP) group is moving forward!  An MDP Advisory Group has been meeting since late summer 2019, and is developing an initiative that includes the already established Breakfast | Beverages | Bright Ideas tours and panels, and is also launching a framework to engage metro area planners in more focused activities.

Three committees are forming, and we are looking for committee members to move the initiative forward.

Events:  The Events and Programs committee will work with MAP staff to develop and strengthen our metro Detroit planning tours.  Next up?  Old Redford!  Details here about the April 15, 2020 walking tour an panel on this exciting Detroit neighborhood. You can register for the Old Redford event here.  A July 2020 event is in the works for the Livernois Avenue of Fashion and MAP’s Summer Planner’s Gathering.

Membership:  Post bankruptcy and recession, there are more professional planners working in metro Detroit than in decades.  MAP wants to enhance our relevancy among these planners and get them to return to MAP!  Can you help with this outreach and member recruitment effort?

Career Development:  This committee is looking to strengthen MAP’s existing mentor program, and match up metro Detroit planners with students and new professionals.  Still evolving the committee members also could serve as mentors, visit universities, and launch a program to introduce planning as a career to students from elementary to high school.
