MAP and COVID-19

Following the announcement of the confirmed cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Michigan, and the State of Emergency declared by Governor Whitmer on March 11, the Michigan Association of Planning is developing protocols and strategies to protect the health and safety of our staff, our members, and our education program participants.  We are following guidance from local, state and federal public health agencies. Here is a link to the official State of Michigan’s coronavirus website https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus

Beginning March 17, the Michigan Association of Planning staff will practice social distancing and work remotely. We expect this practice to continue at least through April 6. The declarations of emergency by the Governor of Michigan, as well as sweeping closures of schools in the state, made the decision clear. We will reevaluate as we learn more.

Nearly all of our similarly positioned nonprofit and government partners have made this same decision as we all work to flatten the curve. As you know, the situation regarding the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing, and staff is doing everything we can to respond swiftly and appropriately. Rest assured, we are taking every measure to minimize disruption and continue normal business operations.

How does this impact operations?

  • The best way to reach staff is via email. Contact information for all staff is here
  • If you are unsure which staff member to contact, please email [email protected]
  • You can call the MAP office at 734.913.2000. All calls are being forwarded to our Director of Operations Tracie Faupel. Please leave a message, and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
  • Staff will respond to phone calls and emails during business hours (M-F, 9 a.m.-4:00 p.m.)
  • All MAP events through May 2020 have been cancelled or postponed.

We will continue to share updates as needed and will post all communications and resources on the website as well.

Thank you to the entire membership, our vendors and friends for your support throughout this changing crisis.

We appreciate your support and patience in this matter as we all navigate this new reality.

The health and safety of our members and partners is of utmost importance to us. Please take the necessary precautions to care for yourself, your family, and others around you.
