Metro Detroit Planners Group

The Michigan Association of Planning has a long history of activity in Metro Detroit including our successful Breakfast | Beverages | Bright Ideas (BBB) series that started in 2012, with quarterly walking and bus tours, panels and networking events that attracted planners from across the region; our MAP Reads Book Group which commenced in 2017 and has been meeting every other month ever since; and many other projects and grant funded training programs aimed toward metro Detroit planners harkening back to the early 2000’s.

Interest remains high in Detroit’s transformation, and there are more planners employed by the city, non-profits, and the private sector than ever, and  MAP is redoubling its programming efforts in the city to showcase Detroit’s planning, preservation and development efforts.

An Advisory Group was formed to guide this refresh, and you’ll see more regular programming of our BBB events, but also other activities like membership recruitment, a mentor program, enhanced engagement with students, and more.

Stay tuned for announcements as the Metro Detroit Planners (MDP) group evolves.
