Ports and Port AuthoritiesThere are 22 ports that connect Michigan to the world as part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Ports are governed under a variety of jurisdictional types, including public or municipally-owned ports, port authorities, and private ports. Ports have large infrastructure needs by nature of their designs, as they must be large enough and deep enough to handle freight traffic.
