Joseph G. Kuspa has been a lifelong resident of Southgate, and since 2009 has served as City Mayor. Mayor Kuspa has actively collaborated with planning professionals, local commissions, and economic development boards throughout Wayne County to implement progressive policies that enhance Southgate's built environment and community character.
His leadership has strengthened public awareness of the planning process, advocating for initiatives that integrate land use planning, infrastructure development, and community engagement. He has supported comprehensive planning efforts, most recently during the completion of Southgate’s 2025 Parks and Recreation Master Plan and the ongoing update to the City’s Master Plan fostering significant community engagement, ensuring that the city’s vision aligns with long-term growth and sustainability goals.
