Late yesterday, CEDAM received notification that the Trump-Vance Administration terminated Michigan’s AmeriCorps funding as of Friday, April 25. As a result, the Michigan Community Service Commission issued a Stop Work Order for all activities related to CEDAM's AmeriCorps and the MI Healthy Climate Corps Programs, effective immediately. Members were notified yesterday evening and informed not to return to service today, April 29. We do not know if or when the Stop Work Order will be lifted.
CEDAM is devastated by this news. We have one of the longest-standing AmeriCorps programs in the state, and have seen many AmeriCorps service members go on to careers in community development. For more than three decades, AmeriCorps members dedicated their time and talent to serving their communities and devoting themselves to public service. Our current cohort of 57 members and four program managers have worked tirelessly to move communities forward across Michigan.
This decision has, and will continue to have, a negative impact on our members, our staff, and the Michigan communities they served. We are unsure what the future will look like moving forward. As a host partner, you’ll gain more than just extra support—you’ll be connected to a statewide network of climate leaders and valuable resources, and receive dedicated program support to ensure you achieve your goals. Achieving meaningful climate impact takes strong support, and hosting an MHC Corps member will help your organization expand its reach, start new projects, and build long-term capacity.
The MHC Corps is an AmeriCorps program administered by the Office of Climate and Energy in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy in partnership with CEDAM, and supported by the Michigan Community Service Commission.
