Helen S. Willis Outstanding Commissioner Award

Pat Kelly is currently the Planning Commission Chair in Sharon Township (Washtenaw County) and the Deputy Township Supervisor for Sylvan Township. She has served on the Planning Commission, as either the secretary or the chair, since 2021.

Ms. Kelly has increased the understanding of planning principles in Sharon Township and Washtenaw County by leading with thought, diligence, and care. Throughout the two-year gravel pit application process, she adhered to the standards in the Zoning Ordinance, educated a variety of community stakeholders and the public on the process and standards for the application. She also insisted in the kindest way that her fellow Planning Commissioners review the application in detail, make finding of facts, and have difficult discussions. She led by example with well-crafted motions and setting a schedule that allowed Planning Commissioners to review materials as well as the time and space to make well-informed decisions.
